We have at least one general meeting every
term to
which all parents and staff are very welcome. They usually last about an
hour to an hour and a half, often with refreshments, and are
held at school in the Hall, canteen, or library/study centre.
The general meetings focus on the issues that really matter to the
children and the school. We share opinions, highlight things we might be
concerned about, or take the opportunity to find out more about what's new
and happening at school.
The Head or a Deputy head teacher
attends the meetings - and are happy to answer questions about
what's happening in school generally. Everyone values the opportunities that
gives to have an open discussion within APSA.
Each meeting has a theme where we explore some areas of school life, and the
staff often join us for discussions.
As well as the general meetings we have a program of social events during
the year culminating in the annual summer fair. Our events are always good
fun and raise funds for the school.
APSA has
worked actively with the school in the campaigns to obtain specialist science
status and to open the 6th Form, with their associated new buildings: follow the
links below for more information.
Recently APSA has formed a Special Needs Support
Group which holds regular meetings, often with guest speakers, to share
resources, ideas, issues and experiences.
The APSA
Book Campaign was launched in 2006 to encourage parents and friends of
Alexandra Park School to donate books to School Library / Study Centre.
APSA is a registered charity and is
governed by a constitution.
The APSA committee runs the association
and organises the meetings and events. It's great fun to get
involved in school events, and a good way to get to know the school and
other parents.
